René Gruau has always held a special place in my heart. Admittedly, I am a natural-born francophile, but I generally don't gravitate towards illustrations as it tends to tell too much information and leave little up to the imagination. Gruau's illustrations remain suggestive in their gestural nature and as effortless as a Parisian woman's innate style.
