Being a food lover has never been so celebrated. Even Ferran Adria has succumbed to the world of Film and Television and has a new documentary about his famed, secluded, experimental restaurant, El Bulli. It comes to LA September 30th and the good old art house theater, Laemmle. Eating popcorn in this movie would be a shame. Just writing this post made my stomach grumble.

Hooray for the Parisian It Girl, Claire Courtin-Clarins. Aside from her insane style, we love her more for the fact that her occupation is always listed as 'graphic designer', not creative director, not fashionista, not Parisian royalty, but 'graphic designer'. Us female creatives don't always get enough credit and in the not so glamourous position of sitting at a computer, hours on end, tweaking vector points and kerning type, it's nice to see the lovely Claire be a spokesmodel for the craft.
Hearts + Merci.

It is impossible not to feel like a mega-dork in the presence of a Fashion Great. A couple weeks ago, I attended quite the posh affair at LACMA, a book signing and birthday party for the book release of Hedi Slimane's Anthologie of a Decade. Simply put, it is a collection of his photographic works of the last 10 years, across 4 countries. While he is best known for his slim silhouette of men's fashion for House of Dior and YSL, my favorite bit of trivia is that his designs were the catalyst for Karl Lagerfeld to lose weight so that he could wear Slimane's creations. Love the dedication to fashion. The book is well-designed and comes complete with slipcover. I even got my copies signed by the artist himself. These are true collectors' pieces and if you can still get your hands on a copy of this limited run, do it!

If only my life was anything near the life of leisure depicted in a Slim Aaron's photo. His documentation of privileged lives of yester-year are the visual harmony of LIFE + STYLE. Love!

Our new discovery for Fall 2011? Tycoon Neckwear! We love the tailored menswear aesthetic and what is more "suitable" than pairing it with a female bow tie from Tycoon? Adorned with tassels, chains, rosettes, and buttons, Tycoon's quirkiness is far less nerd and much more hip. In a recent interview, see where creator, Madelyn Somers', got her inspiration for her dandy brand.

René Gruau has always held a special place in my heart. Admittedly, I am a natural-born francophile, but I generally don't gravitate towards illustrations as it tends to tell too much information and leave little up to the imagination. Gruau's illustrations remain suggestive in their gestural nature and as effortless as a Parisian woman's innate style.

A couple weeks ago, we made a family trip out to Carmel, Indiana, where my better half is from. While there and enjoying the sprawling greenery as far as the eye can see, we discovered a pocket of Mid-Century homes by the female architect, Avriel Shull. I am always pleased to learn about female creatives that make their mark in the world, especially during an era and in a field, where it wasn't common. Avriel's homes are historical landmarks, among several other architecural styles in Carmel.
Seeing all this amazing architecture was made more interesting by seeing it in context next to a Victorian style home or a converted farmhouse. Some have coined Indianapolis the Palm Springs of the Midwest. I definitely started seeing the similarities.

This cul-de-sac of Shull homes has obviously been through a lot in the last few decades. Here are two samples of ones that have strayed over they years...Some of the homes are being restored and are part of the architectural tours in Carmel.
